Faith Navigation

My notes from Priscilla Shirer's study on Jonah. At the end of each week's lessons, we were assigned to record principles that can impact our journey of the "interrupted life". Here are my notes, or "navigational tools" for each week.

Navigation Tools Week Six

Temper tantrums and disappointments - our inconsistency with God's character and our need for God's Spirit.
  1. We cannot make deals with God.
  2. When the Spirit of God is asking you questions that cause self-examination, be willing to agree with God about what you find hiding in your heart.
  3. Divine interruptions often expose my lack of sensitivity to His purposes and my own self-absorption.
  4. When found in a storm, God will meet you there offering you the best of Himself and His purposes. Keep your heart open to receive and retain His divine lessons.
  5. God went out of His way to shed light on His thoughts to a rebellious prophet. He took the time and effort to mold a stubborn heart because He is merciful, compassionate, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness.

Navigation Tools Week Five

God has always placed priority on reaching the lost
  1. What a powerful impact we can make for God's kingdom by making disciples and devoted followers of Jesus.
  2. Move forward with confidence into our "Ninevehs". Tap into God's divine power and boast about our weakness so Christ's power is reflected in and through it.
  3. God wants to partner us with Him to victory with our weakness, our humility, and our obedience.
  4. The power of our obedience has a lasting effect. It leads to the effect we have on unbelievers and the effect it has on our own personal circumstances.
  5. God wants to respond with mercy and compassion to a repentant heart. He often extends a conditional judgment that allows mercy to intervene.

Navigation Tools Week Four

Celebration of Second Chances
  1. God is working on our behalf - even during a season of sin - and is preparing us for a second chance. Thank God for His mercy and grace!
  2. He will search for me even when I am lost.
  3. We are to devote ourselves fully, and with whole-hearted obedience, to God's will.
  4. We must place our confidence in God's leading, along with the guidance from His indwelling Holy Spirit, in the journey.
  5. Knowing God's endless love and mercy should send us to our knees (to experience it), but also to our feet to walk in obedience that prioritizes submission to His will over all else.

Navigation Tools Week Three

There are some important steps for reconciling with God.
  1. Our journey back into right relationship with our Lord begins when we accept the conviction He uses to stir us in the new new direction He wants for us. (Acknowledge our sin)
  2. God's discipline is good. His goal is always to prepare us, revitalize us, and transform us. (Accept God's discipline)
  3. True repentance requires a change in direction but does not necessarily require your feelings. Walk in faith, and your feelings will follow.
  4. Obedience can sometimes be a gift fo sacrifice as we trust His direction - even in the small details.
  5. "I rejoice in You, Lord. And I'll praise Your holy name to all people."

Navigation Tools Week Two

God can use anything, including our messes and leftovers and make something amazing our of them.
  1. Where our allegiance (or treasure) is will determine our response to divine intervention. Where are our priorities?
  2. We can determine our relationship with God by how we feel about His presence.
  3. How we respond to God's calling today will determine and impact our future - one decision at a time.
  4. God sometimes sends storms to shake us back into intimacy with Him. His discipline is a sign of His love. He does not discipline those who are not His children.
  5. The storm created by Jonah's rebellion was a perfect backdrop for the sailor's conversion. God can even use our rebellion to accomplish His purposes!

Thank you Lord, for never giving up on me. And drawing me close, even when I rebel or seek my own desires. I praise You for Your loving-kindness and faithfulness. Amen.

Navigation Tools Week One

The privilege of being interrupted.
  1. Interruptions are really divine interventions that invite us to participate in kingdom purposes.
  2. Divine interventions are a privilege and our life has the potential to be eternally significant as we join with God in His purposes.
  3. Yield to His interruptions completely with faith.
  4. We have been created for a purpose and to display God's character in our lives.
  5. God's plans are beyond our reasoning and understanding but they have eternal value. We must simply obey.
"Thank you, Lord, for Your interventions/invitations to partner with You in Your eternal plans. May I always be listening and ready in obedience to Your calling. Amen"
