A Few Unreported Finishes

The period of time between April and July really flies by here in Northeastern Ohio with all the outdoor yard work and planting along with end-of-the-year school functions we can't miss. 

 

I should not be surprised when my sewing slows down. There are a few things that I have managed to work on, some even to completion. 

A surprise completion was this turkey tracks mystery quilt. Another classic example that mystery quilts can sometimes go awry follows. Not much contrast...

and I almost put this one away for later but decided to see it through. I had yards of these fabrics and wanted to use them up. Once sashing and borders were attached I used up the rest on the backing. Now I have a completed top to quilt soon AND all that fabric used up. 

I added the little plus sign in the centers for an updated look but it still reminds me of the old english chintz quilts. 

It finishes as a large throw size (72" x 72") and I hope to have it quilted with binding done by the end of the year.






I recently took an online course in curved piecing. One of the projects was this improv curves top. I really had fun working on this one and gained some confidence in cutting and piecing. Taking your time to learn a new skill is essential while speed will come with experience. So be patient!

My present obsession is these little hexagon flowers. OMGosh! They are like potato chips - so addictive! I sit happily in the evening piecing and joining these little cuties. 

The goal is 4 per week for a total of 48. Then they will be appliqued onto 60 degree diamonds. I haven't reached that point yet but I am delighted to be using up small scraps from my stash. Once the flowers are done, I will decide what background to use for the diamonds. Maybe scrappy?  If you want to jump in, you can read more information on the Kingfisher Stitch-Along blog. Be aware! The second "Finish-A-Long" quarter is fast approaching and I will have one more finish to report then. It is an "official" finish since it was listed in my goals in April. These little distractions above have kept me from completing less than I had hoped.
